Winter at Tanglewood Berry Farm

Here are a few pictures and notes of what's been happening at the farm this winter.

Camille, our farm manager, is trimming the berries in this picture. Her work is never done and farming is all seasons. Camille is currently working on this years seed selection which she will start planting indoors soon. She is getting a few new and exciting seeds this year in addition to some of our good old stand buys that we grew last year.

Bell and Rosie, our mother/daughter miniature Nigerian goats, are not sure if they want to go out in the snow. They have a nice cozy bed of straw in their stall.
Tanglewood Farm was the name of my husbands, grandfathers farm in Ossian so it seemed like a great idea to keep the name in the family.
We get the most unusual visitors at our windows. This deer was right outside our living room window.
Leo, our 100 pound Maremma puppy at 9 1/2 months old, is still growing. We should have named him zucchini because everytime we turn around he's bigger. Leo is a people dog who loves to meet new people and especially loves children. We researched breeds for a few years trying to find a bred that fit our needs and wants. When we found this Italian Sheepdog we felt this was it. Maremma's are outdoor dogs, known for being wonderful with children (since we have 6 grandkids that was important to us), are great guard dogs and are especially good at keeping coyotes away. The year before we got Leo we lost 22 birds and a few turkeys-including a 50 pound Tom- to coyotes. Since we got Leo we have not lost 1 bird or animal to coyotes. Good job Leo!

This is Leo at 2 months old. This is when most of you met him at the market last summer.

Leo is a hard working dog! He loves to go to work. His day starts with him getting on the RTV and going to work on the farm with Camille, Rich or John (our maintenance man). John does what ever needs done at the house and farm and Leo helps by catching moles with his best friend Dandelion the cat.

Leo watching Rich fix the door handle on the screen door. Leo tries to open the door with his mouth so we have to replace the handle every few months.

Leo loves Rich and is always with him.
Leo and Dandy playing together at 4 months old. They are still best friends at 10 months old.

This is Dora the cat. She comes and goes at the farm but was born here a few springs ago.

A squirl eating nuts outside our dining room window.

Our barn in 2006 before the fire. We hope to replace it in 2012.
