Planting Seeds Indoors

Camille has been very busy preparing for the spring planting. First, she plans the amount of space she needs to plant. Then she decides where each crop will go and how she will rotate the different crops. Example: first she will plant spinach then when it is done producing she will plant tomatoes in its place. Then once all of this is decided, and strategically calculated, she orders the seeds, organic compost and fertilizer then starts planting the seeds indoors.

Then once the seeds reach a certain growth Camille moves the seedlings to the outdoor hot house where they will stay until she transplants them to their final destination in the garden.

Camille spends much time looking ahead at the seasons. Since we had such a mild winter and the temperatures were not cold enough, nor for long enough, many bugs were not killed off as they usually are in our Indiana climate. This concerns Camille and she now has to look ahead at the potential diseases and bug problems this growing season. There are things Camille can do now, like spray with lime sulpher, which she did last weekend. Being certified organic the options are not as easy as conventional farming, she has to methodically plan and prepare to react to bug infestations.
